This gorgeous dish is made from high gauge sterling silver It has been exquisitely decorated with pressed, chased and pierced work. The broad, undulating rim has scrolling feathers and flora in relief. Among this are panels of feathering and trellis work which have been finely worked to produce a dark grey surface which highlights the raised ornament superbly.
The piercing to the sides is wonderfully ornate with complex patterns. It is hallmarked for Sheffield 1893 with the maker's mark of Martin, Hall & Co.(Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall). This dish could be used for bonbons or sweetmeats, small fruit (such as grapes) or as a bottle/decanter coaster. This piece is in beautiful condition, the decorative work is very crisp and it stands nice and level without a wobble. There are no dents or damage to the piercing and the only things I can find to mention are a pinhead dint and a pinhead pimple to the base which are barely noticeable. Also, please be aware that after 126 years, there will be some abrasions and there are some areas of fine scratching to the central plate of the dish.
